Circuit Breaker

Circuit Breaker

The importance of a circuit breaker will only ever become relevant after there is a problem. Until then the circuit breaker just gets ignored within the enclosure. When we look at circuit breakers we do so by looking at fault level, load profile, and selectivity. An adequate breaking capacity of the circuit breaker will be matched to the system, not by a catalogue preference. In some panels there is a requirement for an MCB to provide final distribution, whereas in other instances an MCCB or ACB may be required to give incoming protection or busbar protection.

We stock MCB, MCCB, ACB, DC MCB, and motor protection circuit breakers as well as capacitor duty protection for APFC panels. When choosing the make, the reliability of contact, thermal stability of device, and the availability of spare parts are also important. Prior to finalising the make we also check to ensure that the adjustable settings on the protection device are compatible, so that during a fault all upstream and downstream devices can clearly see the fault condition. If a circuit breaker has a problem with mechanical operation (i.e., it does not close providing the function) during commissioning, it can lead to unnecessary tripping.

To allow for proper cable bending room and to allow for heat dissipation, we will design the mounting arrangements of PCC panels, MCC panels and distribution boards, as well as the arrangement of the internal components of these panels, and each circuit breaker will also go through an insulation resistance check, functional operation check, and setting verification prior to integration into the panel. Once installed into an installation in the United States, a circuit breaker can handle repeated on-off switching, voltage spikes, and very short circuit conditions without nuisance tripping or delay before responding.
